We take the quality of our product very seriously. It is likely that the specks that you're seeing are overcooked or caramelized specks of formula. Scorched particles can appear as light beige, black, orange or red in colour.
Powder Infant Formula
Scorched particles are caused when the powder becomes overheated during the manufacturing process while being dried from a liquid to a powder. The powder turns brown or black as a result and appears in the final formula as small black or brown particles.
You can determine for yourself if you are seeing scorched particles by crushing the speck(s) against a hard surface. If it crumbles into powder, it is a scorched particle. Also, if you drop the speck in hot water, if it is a scorched particle, the speck will dissolve over time.
Liquid Infant Formula
If the protein found in formula is overheated during processing of liquid infant formula, this may appear as an orange, grey, brown or black speck or particle. The particles are not common but are from the minerals settling out of the formula. Unfortunately, these particles will not go back into solution as they are now baked product.
