What you need

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
any chocolate frosting

How to prepare

Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar with an electric mixture until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla extract. With mixer on low, gradually add flour mixture. Beat until combined.

Divide dough in half, flatten into disks, and wrap each half in plastic wrap. Freeze until firm (at least 20 minutes). Let dough stand 5 to 10 minutes after removing from freezer.

Roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness on floured surface and use a cookie cutter to create circular shapes. Transfer dough to lightly greased cookie sheets.

Bake for 12 to 16 minutes, or until edges are light golden brown. Gently push 1 MINI TURTLES candy on top of each warm cookie. Pipe chocolate frosting spider legs around each MINI TURTLES. Cool 3 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely before storing.

Give them eyes!

Use edible candy eyeballs, or white frosting to top off your critters.

Hold the legs

Use this recipe to make regular TURTLE topped cookies when you’re not feeling spooky.
