Gerber® Baby Cereal Bug Prevention

Monday, June 09, 2025

The quality of our products and the safety of your little one is very important to us. With the change in seasons, open or unopened food at room temperature become very attractive to insects. Our packaging is designed in a way to have a good barrier against pests, however, on rare occasion, despite our many preventions in place, some insects attracted to grain could enter our cereal products after opening the seal.

Our factories are held to the highest standards and there are many quality checks put in place to avoid these types of issues. We use Good Manufacturing Practices in addition to having robust pest control programs in place. In our facilities, an insect would not remain intact or alive in the finished product simply due to the several steps that the ingredients and final product goes through. Ingredients are subject to mixers and high heat and are also passed through several fine filters. If the product or packaging isn’t just right, it’s not good enough to be called Gerber® and does not leave our factory.

We recommend storing our cereal in a cool, dry place, ensure the bag is tightly sealed after opening, and be sure to keep it away from other grains. You can find more tips on storing baby cereal here.

If you have any further concerns, please send us the product information and a photo. We would be happy to share the details with our Quality Assurance team and work with you on resolving the matter.
