Nestlé Gerber® Organic Baby Cereal has Odour

Monday, June 09, 2025

If you have observed a stale odour of the Gerber® Organic Baby Cereal, there may be a few reasons why this can happen:

  • The product may be past the expiry date.
  • Flour-based ingredients naturally oxidize over time causing a stale odour (please see storage recommendations here).
  • The product is made with organic ingredients and no preservatives; therefore, it tends to absorb the smell and taste of its surroundings. This effect is worsened if the product is left open and exposed to oxygen.

At Nestlé, the quality of our products is our highest priority and we follow the strictest control and manufacturing procedures. We are continuously working on the improvement of our processes, to mitigate this deviation while optimizing the product’s useful shelf life.

Every batch of product goes through sensory testing to ensure it meets our texture, appearance, colour, taste, and odour specifications. All batches also go through microbiological and chemical testing to ensure they are safe for babies. Therefore, please rest assured that the product is safe to consume.
