German Lebkuchen

Lebkuchen, sometimes called Pfefferkuchen, is a German treat somewhat similar to gingerbread. These soft, moist and nutty cookies have become a part of Germany’s Christmas traditions. Try these honey-sweetened cookies made with NESTLÉ CLASSIC Semisweet Chocolate, almonds, cloves and nutmeg.

What you need

Ingredients

2 cups of flour (wheat)
1 cup of chopped almonds
2 teaspoons of grated ginger
1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon powder
half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda
1 teaspoon of chemical yeast powder
1 pinch of clove powder
1 pinch of nutmeg
half a cup of honey
half cup (tea) of butter
1 zest of lemon zest
butter to grease
½ cup slivered almonds for garnish

How to prepare

Instructions

1 Pasta

In a bowl, mix the flour with the almonds, ginger, cinnamon, bicarbonate, baking powder, cloves and nutmeg. In another bowl, combine the honey with the milk, the butter and the lemon zest, forming a cream. Add the cream to the dry ingredients and mix well until smooth. Make balls with portions of the dough and flatten them. Place portions of the dough on a large greased baking sheet. Bake in a moderate oven (180°C) for about 25 minutes.

2 Roof

Melt the NESTLÉ CLASSIC Chocolate in a bain-marie and cover the cookies. Decorate with almonds and serve.
