Concerns with the Plastic Used in Nestlé Packaging

Thursday, October 30, 2025

At Nestlé, we recognize that the packaging we use to protect our food and beverage products ensures their quality and prevents food waste. It can also have an impact on the environment. Our vision for the future is clear: none of Nestlé’s packaging, whether it is plastic or otherwise, should end up in landfill or as litter. So, we prioritize reducing waste, increasing recycling and finding suitable alternatives to plastic.

Some examples of packaging improvements in Canada include:

- In Canada, Coffee Mate Liquid shrink sleeves, caps, and PET bottles are now recyclable together and can be placed into the blue box.

- Our BOOST beverage carton packaging uses responsibly sourced paperboard and corrugate that is certified to meet the environmental and social standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), respectively

There are a lot of factors that go into selecting the materials we use for our packaging. In order to comply with food regulations and standards, which often have an impact on the types of materials we can use, we perform extensive testing to ensure we meet these requirements while considering the material’s environmental impact. Plastic packaging also plays an important role in safely delivering high-quality foods and drinks, while reducing food waste.
